It was when her world came crashing down, I first met Claudia. I found myself immediately on the ground, replaying instantaneously the noise of her face hitting the pavement. Emma hovered in the corner of the building behind me watching uncomfortably. Everything ceased as I stared into the face of this sweet older woman. Her eye scraped by the cement, her mouth already swollen and bleeding.
As unfortunate as the moment had been for Claudia, it was a perfect representation of a message I had learned just hours earlier: Huddled on the hay with Emma & Jack in our chicken class, I listen as our teacher reminds us that we are covered by His wings. She beautifully illustrates a mother hen, protecting her baby chicks who remain warmed and comforted by her wings & feathers. As much protection that this hen gives, her babies can still be snatched, with force, from her grip.
But with our God, no matter what in life crashes down, whatever we have to endure in the moments, whether physical hurt and discomfort, embarrassment, betrayal, and disappointment, we are covered by His Wings, where nothing can harm or destroy.
He will cover you with His feathers,
and under His wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
